Acoustical Properties

Everyday the world around us gets noisier. The sounds of everyday life come into a home through the glass in your windows and doors. It may be the neighbor mowing their lawn, or a busy highway nearby, a construction site or the sounds of airplanes above. Sometimes it is nice to just get away and enjoy some peace and quite.

Accoustical Properties

Accoustical PropertiesThe design and components used in The Protector Series impact windows and doors, virtually eliminate unwanted sounds from outside. The multi chambered vinyl frame helps to stop noise from passing through the window while the heavy duty laminated glass used for hurricane protection creates a barrier between you and the sounds from outside. The Protector Series disrupts sound waves before it passes through the glass, eliminating irritating outside noise by up to 50%.

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) established a system to rate the effectiveness of products for sound reduction. They are referred to as STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings. The higher the rating the better the product is for eliminating unwanted sound.

The design and components of standard single pane windows do very little to eliminate unwanted sounds and have low STC ratings. The Protector Series incorporates laminated safety glass and gas filled air spaces which perform well and have high STC ratings.
Products Normal STC Range Typical Value
Window w/single pane glass 22-27 27
Window w/insulated glass 28-32 31
Protector Series w/monolithic laminated glass 31-36 34
Protector Series w/Insulated Impact Glass 35-39 37+

The Protector Series does more than just help protect people and property; they also protect the quality of life in interior spaces by making them quieter and more comfortable.
